Job Overview

The Department of Paediatric Neurology is one of the longest established in Britain, supported by 8.5 WTE consultants at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (RMCH). It provides specialized services including a long-standing Neuromuscular Service, an acquired brain injury service, and specialized clinics such as neuroimmunology and neurovascular. The department is one of four centers in England chosen for children’s epilepsy surgery, run jointly with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, and has one of the largest ketogenic diet services in the country.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful candidate will join ten other Consultant colleagues at RMCH and one at Royal Preston Hospital, providing a comprehensive Paediatric Neurology service, including advisory services for other paediatric consultants in the North West. A key role will be providing paediatric neurology expertise to Royal Oldham Hospital, the Oldham Community Paediatric Team, Royal Lancaster Infirmary, and the Community Paediatric Neurodevelopmental Service at Lancaster.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

• MBChB or equivalent
• Completion of basic/core training as defined by RCPCH
• Completion of higher training in Paediatric Neurology or equivalent
• Post CCT training in paediatric neurology

Teaching and Audit

• Teaching Medical Students
• Experience of audit
• Teaching junior medical staff

Academic Achievements and Research

• Publications in recognized journals (Notably specialist journals such as Development Medicine and Child Neurology)
• Research projects relating to Paediatric Neurology

Other Requirements

• Full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration) and Licensed to Practice
• Registered on the GMC Specialist Register or be eligible for relevant CCT within 6 months of interview.
