The Evelina London Children's Hospital opened on 31st October 2005 and is currently part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. Our vision is to be a world leading centre of life-changing care for children, young people and their families. In 2016 The Evelina London Children's Hospital achieved an 'Outstanding' rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) with Children's Community Services rated 'Good'.We are the second largest provider of children's services in London. Our neonatal unit cares for around 900 babies a year, and has some of the best survival rates in the UK. We provide around one in five of the UK's kidney transplants in children. In 2023 we are opening two new operating theatres within a Children's Day Surgery Centre to help us reduce waiting times for surgery.
The Paediatric Anaesthetic Group provides over 11000 anaesthetics a year. Just less than half are under the age of five and 200 are neonates. There is a large cardiac surgery service including cardiac MRI and cath lab. Other services include general surgery, cleft and plastics, nephro-urology, including renal transplantation, ENT (including specialist airway surgery), orthopaedic/spinal, ophthalmic, diagnostics and dental surgery. Anaesthetic Services include a Pre-assessment Clinic and an Acute Pain Service.
The Department of Anaesthesia is seeking x2 full-time (10 PA) Locum Consultants with a special interest in Paediatric Anaesthesia to join our dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team of Paediatric Anaesthetists.
The Department of Paediatric Anaesthesia covers all surgical specialities except neuro surgery and liver transplantation. The department has a special interest in teaching & training, regional anaesthesia, patient optimisation, enhanced recovery & difficult airway skills. We have an active role in the Trust's new high fidelity simulation centre. Our anaesthetic sites are equipped with Drger Primus or Fabius (MRI) anaesthetic machines, Phillips monitors & GE and Sonosite ultrasound for nerve blocks. There is close liaison with the PICU.
You must be fully registered with the GMC, hold a License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage.The post holder will have regular contact with children and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

This means that some staff groups will increasingly be asked to work a more flexible shift patter so that we can offer services in the evenings or at weekends. We regard this flexibility as essential if we are to continue to provide first class patient care in the future. As a result, any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern of working in the future if required and in accordance with the provisions of the new Guys and St. Thomas NHS Foundation Trust consultant contract. All new employment contracts include weekend working; which at present means one elective Saturday or Sunday list every 12 weeks.
