Overview

Locum Consultant post in the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke). This is a fixed-term post of 9 months to cover maternity leave, based at Peterborough City Hospital. The post is expected to start in January 2026. Applicants may apply to work less than full time or to job-share. It is expected that the successful candidate will work on one site at Peterborough City Hospital, with potential cross-site work in the future. The total number of deliveries is 4,500 per annum. Appointment will be made under the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England).

North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust serves a diverse, fast-growing population of about 700,000 and employs around 6,000 staff. The Trust is commissioned by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICB and Lincolnshire ICB. Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke Maternity Departments have been rated as Good by CQC (June 2023). They have a fully equipped obstetric and midwifery-led birthing unit, fetal medicine scanning and high-risk obstetric services, alongside modern inpatient and outpatient Gynaecology services. The Maternity IT system is K2 with Antenatal, Intrapartum and Postnatal modules.

Job Details

The appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England).

Current units have a Midwifery-led birth unit (MLBU) alongside a Consultant-led Unit. The standard job plan is 10 programmed activities (PAs) and includes participation in a 1 in 13 on-call rota for Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Peterborough Hospital.

Location: Peterborough City Hospital, Bretton Gate, Peterborough, PE3 9GZ.

Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 per annum. Contract: Fixed term. Working pattern: Full-time. Reference: 176-Mat-7474720.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Education and Qualifications: MBBS (or equivalent)
  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • CCT and/or inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC or within six months of Appointments Advisory Committee
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Advanced Labour Ward Practice ATSM or equivalent (subspecialisation or grandfathering)

Desirable

  • ATSM Maternal Medicine or Advanced Antenatal Practice or equivalent subspecialisation or grandfathering
  • ATSM Benign Gynaecological Surgery: Open and Laparoscopic or equivalent
  • ATSM Acute Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy or equivalent

Experience & Knowledge

  • Essential: Recent active involvement in practical intrapartum obstetrics
  • Broad experience in obstetrics and gynaecology

Desirable

  • Experience of Maternal Medicine at secondary provider level
  • MOET/ALSO instructor or PROMPT course
  • Teaching at post- and undergraduate levels
  • Able to perform laparoscopic treatment for ectopic pregnancy

Academic Achievements

  • Essential: Demonstrable participation in audit
  • Desirable: Attendance and presentation at national/international obstetric and gynaecology meetings; completed and published research
