The NHS seeks a Locum Consultant Haematologist to join their Medical Haematology Service at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. This role involves overseeing a specialized service for Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia, managing clinics, and contributing to quality improvement in patient care.
Job summary
Applications are invited for a Locum (9PAs) Consultant Haematologist to support maternity cover. The post is based within the laboratory and Medical Haematology Service at Addenbrooke's Hospital part at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH). This post is available to commence as soon as possible until 24 July 2026.
The successful candidate will join an established team within the Medical Haematology Service, automated haematology laboratory, specialist haematosis laboratory and transfusion laboratory and which currently has 5 Consultant staff. The automated laboratory is UKAS ISO 15189:2012 accredited.
Main duties of the jobThis is a post in Medical Haematology with a special focus on Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia, Haemophilia and Thrombosis. The applicant would also be expected to take the lead in the Regional Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia (TTP) Service. The post holder also will provide clinical service and leadership to the recently established regional thrombotic thrombocytopenia service. As such the post holder is responsible for overseeing the emergency plasmapheresis service for newly diagnosed patients with Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia in East Anglia. The post holder is also expected to liaise with the national team and NHS England as well as the district general hospitals referring patients to improved and refine pathways and to improve performance over time through education and improved pathways.In addition the post holder will have regular clinics for Medical Haematology, thrombophilia and haemophilia as well as for TTP.You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. About usThe applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013).
