Overview

University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust is offering a 6-month Locum Consultant position within the Hepatology Department. The successful candidate will join a well-established team of Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists working in the Division of Medicine, with a flexible approach that supports both specialist interests and a healthy work-life balance. This is a six-month locum appointment for a Consultant Hepatologist, aimed at improving waiting times for our general hepatology outpatient service and supporting patients identified through our community liver health check programme, "Alright My Liver".

Responsibilities
  • Be based primarily at Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) with additional outpatient clinics at Weston General Hospital and endoscopy sessions at South Bristol Community Hospital; work across all three sites.
  • Participate in the BRI emergency endoscopy on-call rota (currently 1 in 10).
  • Be competent in therapeutic upper GI endoscopy.
  • Provide occasional support for gastroenterology-hepatology in-reach as needed (no regular inpatient work required).
  • Support the hepatology team with supervision of Clinical Nurse Specialists.
  • Contribute to improving waiting times for the general hepatology outpatient service and support patients identified through the community liver health check programme.
Qualifications
  • Specialist accreditation (CCT or equivalent) in Gastroenterology-Hepatology is essential.
  • Accreditation in General Internal Medicine is desirable.
  • Must be competent in therapeutic upper GI endoscopy; independent practice in lower GI endoscopy is desirable but not essential.
