Job summary

Royal Manchester Children's Hospital is advertising a Locum Consultant General Paediatrician on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The appointee will join a team of 18 consultants to provide acute and outpatient care for Children and Young People in Manchester and Trafford.

The post involves an average of 10 programmed activities per week, with hot week duties, on-call responsibilities, and time for administration and education.

Qualifications

• MBChB or equivalent qualification.
• Completion of higher specialist training in paediatric medicine and specialist registration (or within 6 months of CCT).
• MD or PhD or higher degree.

Responsibilities

• Provide general paediatric duties including inpatient care and new admissions.
• Cover hot weeks and weekend on-calls including evenings.
• Participate in resident and non-resident on-call rotas.
• Contribute to administration and educational supervision.
• Time for research and learning activities.

Royal Manchester Children's Hospital is excited to advertise for a Locum Consultant General Paediatrician on a 12 month fixed term contract.

The postholder will join a team of 18 consultants to provide both acute and outpatient care for Children and Young People who live in Manchester and Trafford.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be contracted for an average of 10 programmed activities per week in general paediatrics and will contribute to general paediatrics hot weeks, second on weekends, resident shifts and non-resident on calls. The exact job plan will be agreed with the appointee at commencement of the post, however a draft job plan is provided below for example.

General paediatric duties will include:

• Hot weekduties as one of 2 consultants covering inpatients and new admissions Monday to Friday or Monday to Sunday
• Non-resident on calls from home
• Resident on calls covering new evening admissions from 5–10 pm
• 6 – 7 weekends per year, some from 8am–2pm, and some to include out of hours on call
• Time for administration arising from these duties
• Time for educational supervision

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

What is a DBS Check?

A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:

Standard DBS : Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.

Enhanced DBS : Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police that’s considered relevant to the role.

Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the children’s and/or adults’ barred lists.

Who Needs a DBS Check

The Costs for a DBS

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

• Completion of higher specialist training in paediatric medicine. Must be on the specialist register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT or equivalent at the time of interview.
