A healthcare provider in Leeds is seeking a Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist to support core gastroenterology and endoscopy services. The ideal candidate will have GMC Registration and experience in both inpatient and outpatient care, with a focus on endoscopic resection techniques. This position includes responsibilities in teaching, research, and departmental development, with opportunities to work in a vibrant city known for its cultural activities.
We are looking for a dynamic individual to fill this new post within the Gastroenterology Department at the St James's University Hospital. The aims of this exciting post are to support and further develop the core general gastroenterology and endoscopy service whilst having an interest in endoscopic resection techniques such as EMR and ESD.
The successful applicant should possess MRCP (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
The Trust is committed to providing sustainable consultant-delivered services to ensure the quality of the patient experience. Working patterns that provide senior cover throughout 24 hours per day, seven days per week will therefore be required. Successful candidates will be expected to work with the Trust and its consultant staff to deliver service patterns and job plans that meet this objective.

The aim of the post is to contribute to the growing workload in general gastroenterology, with the opportunity to pursue an interest in endoscopic resection techniques. The post holder will participate in general gastroenterology inpatient care, organized on a rotational basis. In outpatient settings, the post holder will help deliver high-quality care by providing general and specialist gastroenterology clinics weekly. Additionally, the post holder will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, departmental audit, and governance.
2.1 To link with consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the CSU and across the Trust.
2.2 To work with colleagues in the gastroenterology department to deliver acute on-call (currently 1 in 14) for gastroenterology and hepatology inpatients, including acute gastrointestinal bleeding. This includes out-of-hours cover and acute ward rounds during normal hours.
2.3 To contribute to research, teaching, and new developments within the department. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to ongoing clinical research programmes.

This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist.
The post will deliver 10 PAs supporting inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology services, with opportunities to pursue interests in endoscopic resection techniques such as EMR and ESD.
The post is based at St James's University Hospital, with outpatient services at Leeds General Infirmary and Wharfedale General Hospital. Our department provides comprehensive gastrointestinal care, including tertiary referrals and advanced endoscopic procedures like ERCP, EUS, and others.
We offer high-quality endoscopy training with JAG accreditation, with facilities across Leeds equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Our trainees gain experience in managing complex cases, including IBD, enteral and parenteral nutrition, and pancreaticobiliary medicine.
The department has a strong research focus, with ongoing projects in colorectal cancer and IBD, supported by the Leeds Institute of Research and collaborations with the Clinical Research Network.
