Job summary

A leading NHS Trust in Guildford is seeking a Consultant Gastroenterologist for a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover role. The successful candidate will join a team of NHS Consultant Gastroenterologists and have opportunities to develop subspecialty interests. The role includes collaboration with various surgical departments and the chance to contribute to teaching at the University of Surrey. Salary is between £109,725 to £145,478 per annum depending on experience.

Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed colleague to join our experienced and friendly team of 8 NHS Consultant Gastroenterologists. The post holder will have opportunities to develop subspecialty interests aligned with the current team.

This is a 12-month fixed-term maternity leave cover (10.6 PA including on-call commitment for GI bleed rota) for a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, recently rated 'outstanding' by the CQC.

The Gastro-Hepatology department at Royal Surrey is a forward-thinking, ambitious unit committed to team working for patient benefit. It offers comprehensive services, including inpatient and outpatient care, regional hepatology, general gastroenterology, clinical nutritional services, and high-quality endoscopy in our JAG-accredited facilities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a key member of the Gastroenterology team, collaborating with tertiary specialist teams including oesophagogastric, HPB, and colorectal surgical departments. We also have close ties with St Luke's Cancer Centre, particularly in HCC and NET service delivery.

With the opening of a new medical school at the University of Surrey, there will be opportunities to develop teaching and academic links.

Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration and license to practice
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Gastroenterology
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Dual GIM and Gastroenterology accreditation
  • Specialty exam in Gastroenterology
Experience
  • Excellent endoscopic skills with sign-off for independent diagnostic and therapeutic OGD (including acute GI bleeds)
  • Experience managing GI bleeds on a formal GI bleed rota
  • Broad experience in General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, including MDT working
  • Subspecialty interests such as Nutrition, Functional GI Disease, IBD, Capsule Endoscopy, or Hepatology
