A healthcare trust in the UK is seeking a locum Consultant to join their dynamic Emergency Department. The role involves managing a range of patients, supporting research and education, and working collaboratively with various specialties. Applicants are expected to have full GMC registration and recent completion of CCT or CESR. This position offers a supportive teaching environment and opportunities for professional development.
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a locum Consultant to join our forward-thinking and ambitious trust and department. Our department was opened in 2014 as part of the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre at New Cross Hospital. It boasts its own CT/MRI/USS services, purpose-built to facilitate the department, and a co-located SDEC and AMU. We are also collocated with an Urgent Care Centre.
New Cross Hospital is a Trauma unit offering Cardiothoracic and PCI services. We collaborate with all specialties across the hospital and have embedded an innovative way of working with our Acute Medicine colleagues. We have Acute Medicine Consultants working within the Emergency Department until 10 pm, seven days a week, and boast one of the lowest admission rates in the region.
The department sees around 470 patients per day across Majors, Minors, Resus, and paediatrics. Our dedicated Paediatric area offers a 24-hour service, run by Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultants from 0800 to 2400, and specific ACPs for paediatrics.
We support joint roles in research, education, simulation, intensive care, pre-hospital emergency medicine, paediatric emergency medicine, sports and exercise medicine, frailty, and acute medicine.
Many consultants have dual roles, which can be negotiated upon appointment. Responsibilities include roles such as Divisional Medical Director, involvement in pre-hospital care, and dual-trained Consultants working in Adult and Paediatric Emergency Care. We also have Clinical Educator roles supported by RCEM and HEE, providing dedicated time for teaching and supporting the MDT.
We welcome applicants within 6 months of completing CCT or CESR.
We are part of the Clinical Research Network West Midlands, with strong links to Birmingham and Wolverhampton Universities. The trust is renowned for being a teaching institution, offering a nurturing and supportive environment. We have a robust clinical fellow programme with access to a SIM ward for teaching across all areas.
Details will be outlined in the specific job plan and the consultant candidate pack. Please refer to the attached job description.
