As an organisation we recognise the value of a healthy work-life balance. When applying, speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate flexible working, so your work life fits around your home life.

We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates as they are under-represented within the Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Department of Otolaryngology / Head & Neck Surgery at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Trust. This post is being created as part of a planned expansion in elective theatre capacity associated with the opening of the new Bristol Elective Care Centre.

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston provides ENT services across several sites, including the Bristol Royal Infirmary, St Michael’s Hospital, Bristol Children’s Hospital, Weston General Hospital and Southmead Hospital. It serves as the regional centre for paediatric otolaryngology, complex rhinology, major head and neck surgery, skull base surgery, advanced ear surgery and hearing implantation.

We are seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant ENT Surgeon with the appropriate skills and experience to meet the needs of our department. The role is likely to include elements of general paediatric ENT and adult rhinology.

This is a temporary position, additional to the existing team of 12 substantive ENT consultants. The successful candidate will be expected to have broad experience in managing ENT conditions in both adults and children, and to participate in the on-call rota alongside current team members. Given the department’s status as a regional centre for paediatric ENT, experience in managing emergency paediatric ENT presentations is essential.

Newly created full time post Locum Post.

Main duties of the job

Clinical:

Clinical duties include outpatient clinics, operating and emergency care. These activities occur in the University Hospitals Bristol precinct ( Bristol Royal Infirmary, St Michael’s Hospital, Bristol Children’s Hospital) , North Bristol Trust (Southmead Hospital) and Weston General Hospital.

The successful candidate will be expected to comply with all relevant Trust policies relating to administration of patient care. This includes working to set timescales for the triage of referrals, the completion of discharge summaries prior to patients being discharged, following the specified process for the management of patients that do not attend (DNA) their appointment or admission, and the completion of allpaperwork deemed necessary to support the management of their patients within agreed timescales. Consultants are also expected to work with service managers and clinical colleagues to manage their caseload in a flexible way, to ensure both clinical, national and local priorities, such as maximum waiting times for referral to treatment, are achieved
