An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit an enthusiastic Locum Consultant to join the Acute Medicine Department at University Hospitals of Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be based at Queens Hospital, Burton.

About the Acute Medicine Business Unit

The Acute Medicine Business Unit is proud to offer high quality clinical care within flexible and sustainable job plan structures. We positively encourage part time working or job plans split with other specialties. A number of our team operate in this way, delivering DCC in other medical specialties, including stroke medicine and Cardiology.

Responsibilities
  1. Management of patients on the Medical Admissions Unit and Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit at University Hospitals of Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust, including patients referred by their GP, the Emergency Department or by other specialties. Provide Acute Medicine in-reach to Adult patients in the Emergency Department.
  2. Responsibility for personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in their job plan, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of staff.
  3. Provision of cover for Consultant colleagues during reasonable periods of leave including care of patients and supervision of junior doctors and wherever possible any fixed commitments.
Additional Role Highlights

This is an exciting time to join us at Acute Medicine business unit at Queens hospital Burton UHDB. We are planning to expand and extend our services, which include AMU, SSU, SDEC and Virtual ward. Sub-specialty interest in any other medical specialty can be accommodated. Candidates can be accommodated for up to 2 PAs to pursue their specialty of interest. Interest in improving SDEC services and virtual ward like e.g. Frailty services will be encouraged, and successful candidates will be given an extra PA to improve these services.

There is full 24-hr middle grade cover within the Department whilst also being able to offer a proactive approach to further training, development and education, including a well‑equipped Centre for simulation‑based training and a very supportive educational faculty – our educational supervisors have rated highly in GMC surveys.
