Locum Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine
Fixed term 12 months
Full time- 10PA's
Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust is delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious, dynamic individual to join our committed, expanding and providing high standard care to the local community as a Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine.
Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust has an Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and a modern expanding Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).
Acute Medical Unit has 7 consultants. Most of the consultants work less than full time in Acute Medicine and have other speciality interest including renal medicine, endocrine and intensive care.
Darent Valley hospital has a 34-bedded AMU. The AMU is supported by pharmacy and IDT teams' presence on the ward to help support safe discharges. You will be scheduled to be consultant of the day or support consultant in the morning.
SDEC works within the newly opened SDEC village, which includes Hospital at Home Team (HAHT) and Frailty SDEC services. We see around 50-60 patients through SDEC in a day. Ward In-charge and Nurse co-ordinator, who triage and pull patients suitable for SDEC, support the service.
The appointed candidate will also be part of the GIM oncall rota. In addition, if the appointed candidate has additional interest this could be discussed and reflected in the job plan. Going forward it is envisaged that we will have a rota, which would have an AMU consultant of the week. We also are working to an Acute Assessment unit as per the GIRFT criterion and there is potential opportunity for the new Consultant to help develop the unit.
Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust (DGT) is a dynamic and transforming Trust, committed to delivering the highest quality service to the communities it serves. DGT is an organisation that is genuinely committed to making you feel valued and important by supporting your physical and mental wellbeing, your career development and your general enjoyment of work.
There is an excellent Postgraduate Centre at Darent Valley Hospital. This provides lecture and tutorial rooms and a dining room. Numerous meetings for Hospital Doctors and General Practitioners are held at the centre. There are regular educational sessions and meetings covering Case Presentation, Journal club, Histopathology joint meetings, General, Urological and Vascular X-ray meetings and Mammography Meetings.
We are committed to the concepts of equality and diversity. You are required to fulfil your responsibilities under this policy and to ensure that no individual receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of their gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, religion, creed, colour, race, ethnic or national origin, HIV status, age, social background, trade union membership or non-membership, and is not placed at a disadvantage by requirements or conditions which cannot be shown to be justifiable.
