Locum Consultant Haematologist - Hampshire (DRS-Haem/HQ0324EC) Southampton, England

Salary: GBP100 - GBP120 per hour + 1:3 ON CALLS

Role: Locum Consultant in Haematology

Shifts: Full time, Monday to Friday + 1:3 On Calls

Working flexible shifts at University Hospital Southampton NHS FT, you will enjoy close working relationships with your fellow healthcare professionals as you work to ensure the highest standards of care are provided to patients of all ages with both benign and malignant conditions while being a pillar of clinical and educational support for junior Haematologists.

As a Haematology Consultant, you will divide your time between the ward, outpatient clinic, and laboratory, often attending other specialty areas including high dependency and intensive care units. Working alongside a cohesive team of dynamic, motivated, and progressive consultants, all with their own subspecialty interests, you will provide advisory and consultancy services to hospital specialists and general practitioners.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provide diagnosis, screening, treatment, preoperative, operative, and postoperative management of patient care.
  • Support patients and their families, communicating clinical information to explain diagnoses and treatment options using various methods for practical understanding.
  • Coordinate treatment plans and prescribe various treatments.
  • Monitor and care for patients continuously.
  • Communicate with patients and the multidisciplinary team on shared decision-making.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team where appropriate.
  • Assess and prioritize patient requirements, delegating effectively.
  • Recognize, review, and report patient condition changes to the team.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as record keeping, writing prescriptions, and monitoring treatment plans.
  • Conduct research to develop and test techniques and equipment for better procedures and outcomes.
  • Teach and train junior doctors, medical students, and team members.

Qualifications/Licenses/Certifications

  • Be a GMC-registered Doctor (not necessarily on the Specialist Register).
  • Have relevant experience at Consultant level or supporting references.
  • Hold evidence of independent Right to Work in the UK (visa sponsorship not available).
  • Pass an enhanced background check (DBS).
