Job description

A vacancy at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Applications are invited for the above post in the Gynaecology Department at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a locum position to cover the vacancy within the department while a substantive appointment is made.

The postholder will join an existing team of 11 NHS Gynaecologists, 4 NHS Gynae-oncologists, and 6 University of Oxford Clinical Academics. Together, they provide both a local Gynaecology service to Oxford's population and a highly specialist tertiary service in Urogynaecology, reproductive medicine, endometriosis, and Gynae-oncology. This is a Trust-wide position with clinical sessions at Horton Hospital in Banbury, John Radcliffe Hospital, and joint theatre sessions at Churchill Hospital.

The role aims to align demand and capacity until a substantive post is appointed, enabling consultant cross-cover for clinics and theatre lists, and enhancing care for patients with gynaecological emergencies. The successful applicant should have experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis and be part of the Oxford BSGE Endometriosis CaRe Centre.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust provides Gynaecology services across three sites: John Radcliffe Hospital, Horton Hospital, and Churchill Hospital. The successful candidate will work across all sites, undertaking general Gynaecology and specialist clinics, particularly in endometriosis.

The post involves regular theatre lists at John Radcliffe Hospital and Horton General Hospital, managing in-patients, and on-call duties of no more than 1:9, on a rotational basis, responding to GP advice and guidance as needed.

The candidate will also review patients in the ‘hot clinic’ and advise the Early Pregnancy team when on call.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts, offering a broad range of clinical services, education, training, and research. It comprises four hospitals: John Radcliffe, Churchill, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, and Horton General Hospital.
