Job summary

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a Full Time Locum Consultant General Surgeon to join their General & Emergency Surgery department. This role requires comprehensive experience in emergency general surgery, with responsibilities including patient care, audits, and the supervision of junior staff across multiple hospital sites.

Qualifications

  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications in a related field.
  • Evidence of active research with record of grant approvals.

Job overview

An opportunity to join our busy General & Emergency Surgery department at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust has arisen. We are recruiting for a Full Time Locum Consultant General Surgeon (10 PA’s). The post holder will need to have wide experience of all aspects of emergency general surgery care. An interest in Elective gastrointestinal surgery, either upper or lower, would also be desirable.

The successful candidate will be required to work on both our Northwick Park and Ealing sites.

Main duties of the job

• To participate on the General Surgery on-call rota
• To attend relevant MDT and x-ray meetings
• Ward rounds of existing inpatients
• Outpatient clinics and elective theatre lists
• Supervision and training of junior doctors , senior nurse practitioners and physicians associates
• Audits and research
• Clinical Governance

  • GMC - Full Registration on Specialist Register
Knowledge & Experience
  • Experience of General & Emergency Surgery
  • Evidence of wide range of general and emergency surgery procedures (Open and Laparoscopic)
  • Experience, interest and skill in the management of Upper and/or Lower GI surgery
  • Experience in Service Redesign
Management & Audit
  • Evidence of leading Medical Audit
  • Understanding of the NHS agenda
  • Management training including techniques to improve efficiency/productivity
Qualifications
  • FRCS or within 6 months of CCST
  • Higher Degree/PhD
Research & Publications
  • Track record of peer reviewed publications in a related field
  • Evidence of active research with record of grant approvals or peer reviewed publications
  • Supervision of PhD or MS Candidates
