Job description

Position: Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist (Covering Lung)

Location: South Wales
Shifts: Monday-Thursday, 4 days per week
Rates: £110-£135 per hour (dependent on experience, Inside IR35)
Details: 3 lung clinics + MDT, RT planning, and admin. Job plan available on request.

About the Role:

This position offers an excellent opportunity for a Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist covering lung cancers at a renowned NHS trust in South Wales. You will work flexibly, developing strong relationships with cancer patients, managing their care across various stages of the disease, and providing the highest standards of palliative care when required.

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will use some of the most advanced medical equipment in the country to deliver radiotherapy and systemic therapy treatments. The field of Oncology is constantly evolving, with new treatments and breakthroughs happening regularly. Main Duties/Responsibilities:

As an Oncology Consultant at this NHS trust, you will:

  • Support patients and their families, explaining diagnoses, stages of cancer, and treatment options in a clear and practical manner.
  • Assist in managing the side effects and symptoms of cancer and its treatment, including pain management.
  • Coordinate and prescribe various treatments, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
  • Deliver radiation therapy (for Clinical Oncologists).
  • Provide constant monitoring and care for seriously ill or unstable patients.
  • Engage in shared decision-making with patients.
  • Work within and, where appropriate, lead a multidisciplinary team.
  • Prioritize patient needs and delegate effectively to others.
  • Recognize, review, and report changes in patient conditions to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as keeping records, writing prescriptions, and monitoring treatment plans.
  • Ensure compliance with the GMC professional Code of Conduct.
Qualifications/Licenses/Certifications:

Essential:

  • GMC registered Doctor (you do NOT need to be on the Specialist Register).
  • Relevant experience at Consultant level or references to support your transition to Consultant level.
  • Evidence of stand-alone Right to Work in the UK (unfortunately, locum jobs cannot offer visa sponsorship).
  • You will need to pass an enhanced background check (DBS).
