Following a recent of review of our outstanding Oncology service, we are pleased to be expanding our medical workforce numbers to meet the growing demand.

The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust hosts a leading regional Cancer Centre, and we are seeking a well-organised Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist to join our team. The successful candidate will provide expertise in the management and treatment of patients with hepatobiliary and oesophageal tumours. This includes offering Chemotherapy, systemic therapy, and Radiotherapy (including Stereotactic). This role offers the opportunity to join a dynamic team providing exceptional cancer care in a modern, state-of-the-art facility.

The Royal Surrey Cancer Centre provides specialist Cancer and Haemato-Oncological care, including complex cancer surgery, to a catchment area of approximately 1.4 million people in South West Surrey and Hampshire. Non-surgical oncological treatment for these patients is provided at the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre, which is an integral part of the Trust. We have recently opened our newly refurbished Cancer Centre, and are delighted to offer a modern and welcoming environment for patients. We are proud to work collaboratively with local and regional cancer units and the Surrey Clinical Research Facility, and look forward to welcoming medical students from the newly opened University of Surrey Medical School.

Main duties of the job

Remit of the Consultant Post:

· Work with colleagues to provide a Hepatobiliary and Oesophageal oncology service.

· Provide the oncology service as a regional centre for Hepatobiliary and Oesophageal patients in the Guildford and Waverly area.

· Offer Chemotherapy and systemic therapy expertise.

· Participate in regular consultant ward cover sessions.

· This remit requires a well-organised individual with good team-working skills and the ability to complete work within agreed timescales in cooperation with all staff groups and with support from senior colleagues.

Here at the Cancer Centre, we aim to provide first class, high quality care for all of our patients in a friendly and professional setting. Our services have received national recognition and praise and our patients benefit from the latest and most innovative treatments available, such as Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy, real-time adaptive radiotherapy, high dose rate brachytherapy, and a mobile community infusion suite. We also deliver a full range of diagnostic nuclear medicine tests to both adult and paediatric patients, as well as providing a comprehensive Molecular Radiotherapy service (including I-131 for benign and malignant thyroid disease).

Experience
  • Recent experience of Oncology care in the relevant tumour groups
  • Relevant experience of management of Oncological emergencies
  • Broad oncology experience in a variety of tumor sites
