Locum Consultant Anaesthetist

The Trust seeks to appoint a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist. This is a whole-time position, and the new appointee will share the caseload, facilities, and trainee grade support with the existing consultants.

We are looking for highly skilled locum anaesthetic consultant to cover maternity leave, who wants to join our forward-thinking team and make a real difference in the NHS. We offer a supportive and stimulating environment where you can develop your skills and career.

The post is whole time post of 10 PA's and offers 9 programmed activities (PAs), and 1 SPA.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide pre-operative assessment, anaesthesia, and follow-up. He/she will be expected to introduce and apply new techniques as appropriate and totake a share of the general work of the department, including cover for consultant colleagueswhere practical.

Main duties of the job

The Department of Anaesthesia is committed to continuing its teaching role and considerableimportance is attached to the support of the junior medical staff in the Department. It isessential that the applicants be committed to his or her own continuing medical education andprofessional development.

The appointment is to the Trust, not to specific hospitals. The appointee will take his/her share of clinical responsibilities within the Department of anaesthesia. This will include provision for peri-operative assessment. In addition to duties within subspeciality, the appointee will be required to provide anaesthesia for adult patients in all specialties as appropriate to his/her training and experience.

Person Specification
Qualifications/Experience
  • MB ChB, MBBS or equivalent
  • Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), or eligible for registration within six months of interview. This must include at least 8 years working in the speciality of anaesthetics. Of these 8 years of Anaesthesia (at least 2 years' experience must be within hospitals in the UK). At least 1 referee must be an Anaesthesia consultant.
  • Five year's experience in undertaking anaesthesia in the UK.
  • Higher Medical Degree (MD or MSc)
  • Six month advanced general training
  • Record of regular attendance at National Specialty meetings
