Job summary

Midlands based Local Authority is seeking a Locum Childcare Solicitor for an initial 3 months with potential extension. The role is full-time, predominantly remote, with court appearances 1–2 times per week. The position offers an umbrella rate up to £60-£65 per hour.

Ideal candidate will have strong experience in Public Childcare matters within a Local Authority setting and be able to manage complex caseloads, draft precise documents, and advocate in urgent hearings.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of complex and sensitive public law children matters including care proceedings, adoption and associated high court proceedings.
• Draft high-quality legal documents under tight deadlines, including threshold statements, application forms, orders instructions to counsel and detailed legal advice.
• Conduct advocacy across urgent applications, CMHs, IRHs, and directions hearings.
• Advise regularly at Legal Planning Meetings.

Organisation: Midlands based Local Authority

Duration: 3 months with the possibility of extension thereafter

Working Pattern: Full time ideally – candidates for 4 days per week may also be considered

Working Arrangement: Predominantly remote working, attending court 1-2 times per week

Hourly Rate: Up to £60-£65 per hour umbrella
