Job summary

The Oyster Partnership is seeking a Locum Childcare Solicitor to join the Legal Services Team in a hybrid role covering South East London. The initial 3-month contract offers £50-£60 per hour with a strong likelihood of extension.

You will manage a varied childcare caseload and advocate in court on a bi-weekly basis while supporting social workers and senior officers. Applicants must be qualified in Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX and have solid experience under the Children Act 1989, including

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX Lawyer.
• Strong working knowledge of the Children Act 1989.
• Experience handling care proceedings from inception to conclusion.
• Advocacy experience and confidence attending Court hearings.
• Ability to manage a caseload independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Managing a caseload of Childcare matters with minimal supervision.
• Undertaking Court Advocacy on average Bi-Weekly.
• Handling proceedings under the Children Act 1989, including Care Orders, Supervision Orders and Emergency Protection Orders.
• Preparing legal documentation and applications for court proceedings.
• Attending and advising at legal planning meetings, PLO meetings and case conferences.
• Providing legal advice and support to social workers, team managers and senior officers.
• Instructing and liaising with Counsel where required.
• Keeping up to date with legislative and case law developments affecting Children's Services.
