A leading company in the rail industry is seeking a Testing Engineer for a 3-month contract in Burton-on-Trent. The role involves testing and validating rail engines and associated components. Candidates should possess effective communication skills and some testing experience, with training provided. The position requires a self-motivated team player who can work collaboratively and is customer-focused.

Job description

Duration: 3 months +

Hours: 6 am - 4 pm Mon to Thurs, 6 am - 12 pm Friday

Own transport recommended due to location

Position Summary:

The role involves testing and validation of Rail Engines, Transmission, Powerpacks, and Cooler Groups. Familiarity with diesel engines, electrical, and electronic control systems is required.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
  1. Install into test cells and test production power products following work instructions.
  2. Ensure products meet testing requirements.
  3. Record accurate data for traceability.
  4. Keep documentation up to date and accurate.
  5. Assist in developing testing requirements for future products.
  6. Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults.
  7. Coordinate with production on technical issues.
  8. Collaborate with colleagues and work as part of a team.
  9. Mentor trainees/apprentices when applicable.
  10. Collect failure data and provide feedback to Engineering.
  11. Work overtime as required.
  12. Adhere to Health, Safety & Environmental policies.
  13. Perform other reasonable tasks within skills and abilities.
  14. Operate computer-controlled test cells, requiring basic computer skills.
Background & Experience:
  • Intermediate/Advanced computer skills.
  • Some testing or related experience.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels.
Qualifications/Education:

Engineering qualification or equivalent is desirable but not essential. Product training will be provided through mentoring.
