Job summary

Progress Rail Locomotive is recruiting a dedicated Locomotive Technician for our Doncaster Roberts Road depot. You will delivery maintenance, refurbishment, servicing and exams on a fleet of diesel-electric locomotives, ensuring safety, reliability and on-time completion of contracts.

The role requires L3 Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship or equivalent, a valid UK driving license and a proactive, team-oriented mindset with strong problem solving and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • L3 Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • Valid UK driving license (B/B1).
  • Experience with Diesel engineering technology and related systems.
  • Self-starter and team player with coaching ability.
  • Strong communication across the organisation.
  • Logical, analytical approach to fault diagnosis.
  • Professionalism and customer-focused mindset.
  • Based near Doncaster depot with right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out maintenance, repair, overhaul, modification and fault-finding activities.
  • Lead engineer for contracts, projects or tasks to support performance.
  • Update SAP system to ensure availability of parts.
  • Input data into locomotive history tracking system.
  • Assist other engineers on the team.
  • Conduct audits in line with quality management standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Model Quality, Health and Safety and Environmental policies.

LOCOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN
DONCASTER

Are you naturally inquisitive and enjoy problem solving and trouble shooting? Do you have a keen eye for details? Do you pride yourself in your technical knowledge and communication skills? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Locomotive Technician to join our team at our Doncaster Roberts Road depot.

As a Locomotive Technician, you will take pride in delivering fleet reliability through the timely, safe and effective execution of allocated contract maintenance and engineering projects, whilst keeping within agreed timescales and budgets. You will need to have a proactive approach working on the fleet of commercial freight trains covering refurbishment, servicing and exams.

Ideally we are looking for a technician that has experience within the rail industry, but with many cross transferable skills the role would suit candidates that are exiting the Armed forces, particularly the REME or those that have experience with servicing large HGV's, buses or trams.

The Locomotive Technician role
  • Carrying out maintenance, repair, overhaul, modification and fault-finding activities
  • Lead engineer for contracts, projects or tasks as necessary to support operational performance
  • Updating SAP system to ensure availability of parts
  • Inputting data into the locomotive history tracking system
  • Assisting other engineers on the team
  • Conducting audits in line with Company quality management standards and processes
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Acting as a role model of Quality, Health and Safety and Environmental Policies

What we would love you to bring to the role:
  • L3 Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship or equivalent
  • Driving license (B/ B1)
  • Demonstrable history of working effectively with Diesel engineering technology and associated systems and controls
  • Self- starter and a team player, able to coach and help others to get the job done to a high-standard
  • A strong communicator with ability to build relationships across the organisation
  • A logical, analytical and objective approach to problem solving and fault diagnosis
  • High level of professionalism & strong sense of customer satisfaction
  • You'll need to be based close to our Doncaster depot and have a valid right to work in the UK
