Overview

Live Works is the School of Architecture and Landscape’s ‘urban room’ and project office. Live Works engages local people in the past, present and future of the city, and supports community-led regeneration of the city’s buildings, streets and neighbourhoods. We provide design services to community, public and voluntary organisations on socially-engaged projects. We also deliver participatory research activities in collaboration with academics across the University of Sheffield. We specialise in engaging diverse communities in place shaping, through the use of creative tools to develop design proposals that are sustainable and locally meaningful.

As Live Works Project Officer, you will get the opportunity to develop your skills in participatory practice and socially-engaged design, collaborate with a wide range of civic and community organisations, and enhance your employability through the delivery of projects that will make a real difference to our region and its communities.

Live Works has several projects to deliver in Sheffield and the city region over the next 8 months. The role is to work with the Live Works team to deliver these projects that include the delivery of high quality community engagement activities and architectural design.

The experience gained in this role could contribute towards ARB/RIBA Part 2 Practical Experience.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

• Work with the Live Works team and civic stakeholders to develop high quality architectural designs that embed sustainability and social value. You will act as a recognised source of expertise, providing advice and support to others.
• Working with customers, other services, and external agencies, as well as attending external meetings and liaising with external contacts.
• Liaise closely with Live Works team, other academics, staff and students involved in the delivery of projects. You will be required to undertake short-term project management within your own area/section or contribute as part of larger department-wide project teams, to support the achievements of project objectives.
• Attend and Contribute to the organisation of project meetings and delivery of presentations and participant workshops.
• Use your skills to assess and organise resources, and plan and progress work activities, projects, and changes within your own area of work, etc over the short-medium term; using initiative and judgement.
• Assist in the writing of the project website/blog, newsletters, reports and scholarly publications. Well-developed written and verbal reporting skills are required, including presenting results via briefings, presentations, or written reports
• Fulfil reporting requirements in line with project needs.
• Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Essential criteria

• Masters level qualification in architecture or higher (assessed at: application)
• Experience in participatory and socially engaged architecture practice (assessed at: interview)
• Experience in participatory projects with external partners and local communities (assessed at: interview)
• The ability to produce high quality architectural design that is founded on principles of sustainability, social value and co-production (assessed at: application & interview)
• The ability to communicate design ideas to a wide variety of audiences - verbally, in writing and through drawings (assessed at: application & interview)
• Good IT and graphic communication skills e.g. Google and Adobe suites (assessed at: application & interview)
• The ability to work independently as well as part of a team (assessed at: interview)
• The ability to assess and organise resources and plan and progress work activities (assessed at: interview)

Salary: £38,249 - £46,735
