Overview

Britannia Row Productions offers in-house apprenticeships that fast-track you into a career as a Live Audio Technician with one of the world’s leading live sound production companies. Whether you're just starting out or already years into a career, this course is suited to those ready to take the next step in their live sound journey by crewing for our high-end and global projects.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you’ll be qualified to work on our global music tours, major sporting fixtures, corporate events, special events and music festivals. Previous apprentices have worked with renowned artists such as Dua Lipa, Foo Fighters, Harry Styles, Pink, Pulp, and Olivia Dean, as well as Maribou State, JJ Lin, You Me At Six, Hiatus Kaiyote and Lil Yachty. They’ve also contributed to major events such as the MTV EMA Music Awards, The BRIT Awards, the Olivier Awards and WOMAD Festival. In the world of sport and live entertainment, apprentices have worked on projects for Formula 1, the NFL and Major League Baseball, as well as Crystal Palace FC and events at Wembley Stadium. Additionally, they’ve supported high-profile brand activations and experiences including the Apple Shop launch at Battersea Power Station and Citizen Con.

Live Audio Technicians are responsible for the preparation and set-up of audio equipment at the event venue. This apprenticeship equips you with the skills to maintain, transport, set up and operate complex audio systems for live events.

What Will You Be Doing?

As an apprentice in our in-house Live Audio Technician Apprenticeship, you will:

  • Work in our impressive warehouse stocked with the latest state-of-the-art audio equipment and technologies.
  • Prepare and maintain a comprehensive range of audio equipment.
  • Work on rotation through specialised warehouse departments: Technical, Speakers & Rigging, Data & Comms, RF & Mics, Cables & Mains, Prep & De-prep and Workshop.
  • Collaborate with highly skilled audio technicians and freelance sound engineers.
  • Learn to professionally load and unload equipment on and off trucks.
  • Help maintain a safe, tidy and organised warehouse environment.

What Training Will You Receive?

You will follow an intensive, fast paced 2-year work and training program, where 15% of your time will be dedicated to formal training, while the remaining 85% will involve practical, real-world work experience in your role. Please note that self-directed learning outside of normal working hours will also be required to keep up with the demands of the programme and support your development.

Training includes:

  • Warehouse-Based Learning: Hands-on experience in our busy warehouse environment.
  • Online and Classroom-Based: Live Sound Fundamentals (LSF) and Live Sound Intermediate (LSI) courses delivered through a blend of online and in-person sessions, covering both theoretical and practical aspects of live sound.
  • Onsite Event and Tour Opportunities: Based on your progress and assessment results, you may have the chance to work on our tours and events during the second year of the apprenticeship.

Professional Behavioural Expectations

  • Problem-Solving: Approach challenges with a proactive attitude.
  • Attention to Detail: Maintain high standards in all tasks.
  • Adaptability: Be flexible in a fast paced environment.
  • Safety: Follow safety protocols and uphold a responsible work ethic.

This apprenticeship will equip you with the knowledge, skill, and professional behaviours necessary to excel in the live sound industry.

How will you benefit?

This apprenticeship provides the opportunity to work and train with the world’s leading live sound company, providing hands-on learning experiences that will prepare you to create innovative audio for major live events in the UK and internationally. It offers a fast track to a professional career at the highest level of the live audio industry.

Britannia Row Productions’ apprenticeship is demanding, requiring full commitment to hard work and fast learning. Upon completion, you’ll receive a certificate widely recognised within the industry. Please note that this not a government scheme.

Expected career opportunities

Graduates of our apprenticeship scheme will gain a variety of skills to become well-rounded Audio Technicians. Previous apprentices have progressed into roles such as Warehouse Technician, System Technician, Stage Technician, RF Technician, Data & Comms Tech, Monitor Tech, Front of House Tech, and Operations Coordinator, through either direct employment or self-employment.

This apprenticeship is designed for those who aim to excel in audio teching, rather than as a fast track to becoming a FOH or Monitor Engineer. While the primary focus is on developing top-tier audio technician skills, some of our former apprentices have successfully moved into mixing roles with Britannia Row Productions and Clair Global clients. This means that, while engineering may be a future option, those with an immediate goal of becoming an FOH or Monitor Engineer may find a different path better suited to their ambitions.
