We have an opening for a new Contracts and Royalties Assistant. This role is perfect for someone passionate about forging a career in the arena of publishing contracts. You’ll gain a thorough understanding of author and illustrator contracts, rights agreements and royalties – the language, the practical application, the processes and the financials. You will work closely with our contracts, rights, sales and editorial teams, and also liaise with authors, illustrators, agents and international customers. The role is ideally suited to a candidate from a literary agency or publishing background, with at least one year of experience and with exceptional organisational skills and eye for detail.

Key responsibilities:
• Drafting contracts for authors and illustrators;
• Liaising with authors, illustrators and literary agents to manage the signature and completion of contracts;
• Supporting the contracts team in key administrative processes;
• Drafting and managing Rights contract renewals and reprint agreements; and
• Managing and processing Rights incoming royalty payments.

Skills and Experience required:
• One year’s experience, ideally within the Contracts or Rights Department of a publishing house or literary agency;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel. Knowledge of publishing database systems such as Biblio would be advantageous;
• Absolute accuracy and eye for detail;
• Excellent communication, organisational, time management and project management skills, plus flexibility to juggle multiple deadlines; plus
• Confidence and professionalism when communicating with colleagues and external clients.
