Job summary

HF is seeking a Litigation Executive to support a Partner and Fee Earners in Large and Complex Loss claims. The role is based in Cardiff with a hybrid pattern (2 days in office) and offers exposure to high-value PI and catastrophic injury work within a collaborative team.

Ideal candidates will have 2+ years in civil litigation, some PI background, strong organisational skills, and the ability to meet billing targets. Training and development are emphasised within this supportive environment.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years' experience working in civil litigation, preferably PI background.
• Familiarity with CPR/Pre-Action Protocol and insurance knowledge is desirable.
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior fee earners with Large and Complex Loss Claims.
• Review records and prepare detailed notes on key issues.
• Collate disclosures and prepare bundles for Counsel instructions.
• Instruct and liaise with experts and Counsel, arrange conferences.
• Diarise court dates and directions, liaise with witnesses, and research legal issues.
• Gain exposure to catastrophic injury claims on behalf of national insurers.

About the Team

Our Complex and Catastrophic team specialises in handling some of the most significant and high-value personal injury claims in the market. Working on multi-track cases valued from £500,000 through to multi-million-pound claims, the team manages complex litigation involving catastrophic injuries and life-changing circumstances. You'll work alongside highly experienced lawyers, gaining exposure to challenging and rewarding cases while developing your expertise in a collaborative and supportive environment.

What you'll be doing

The successful candidate will assist a Partner and other Fee Earners as and when required in Large and Complex Loss claims; so the role represents a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to high quality and challenging work. You will also ensure that clients are confident that their legal affairs are dealt with in a business-like and competent manner and to ensure the efficient operation of the firm. In this role you will not only be working independently but you will be working as part of a team.

The ideal candidate will have previous file handling experience or worked in the insurance industry in a personal injury environment. Whilst experience and qualifications are desirable, above all we hire based on potential so, if you are enthusiastic and want to learn and develop, we are able to offer you the training to succeed.

Main Responsibilities

• To assist senior members of the team with all aspects of Large and Complex Loss Claims.
• Reviewing records and preparing detailed notes on the key issues.
• Collating disclosure and keeping in order.
• Preparing bundles for expert and Counsel Instruction.
• Instructing and liaising with experts and Counsel.
• Arranging conferences and attending with the fee earner.
• Diarising Court dates and directions
• Liaising with witnesses
• Research legal issues.
• The successful candidate will be exposed to catastrophic injury claims (brain injury, spinal injury, amputation claims) on behalf of national insurers.
• To assist with client MI/SLA requirements.

What do I need?

• At least 2-years' experience working in civil litigation preferably PI background.
• Working knowledge of CPR/ Pre-Action Protocol.
• Have some knowledge of insurance
• Have an eye for detail.
• Familiarity with medical records would be beneficial
• Excellent organisational skills
• Can work under pressure and to strict time limits.
• Able to meet/exceed billing target. Previous experience of hourly rate charging preferable but not essential.
