An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Litigation & Regulatory Lawyer to join a well-regarded local authority legal team. This role offers a diverse caseload spanning criminal and civil litigation, licensing, contracts, and regulatory law, with the opportunity to undertake contentious advocacy in courts, tribunals, and inquiries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice and representation on matters including Environmental Health, Licensing, Planning, Housing Benefits, Trading Standards, Highways, and Housing
  • Manage a varied caseload of criminal and civil litigation, licensing, and contractual matters
  • Undertake advocacy in courts, tribunals, and inquiries, ensuring high-quality representation for the Council
  • Offer specialist common law advice and assistance to client service areas
  • Conduct legal research and ensure compliance with evolving legislation and regulations

About You:

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with experience in criminal and civil litigation
  • Strong advocacy skills, with experience representing clients in courts, tribunals, and inquiries
  • Experience advising on regulatory matters such as licensing, planning, environmental health, and trading standards
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced public sector legal team
  • Hybrid working, with the requirement to attend court in the Bedford region as needed
