Unilever’s Global Homecare Category is recruiting for its Laundry Liquids Design team at Port Sunlight, Wirral.

Understanding consumer needs is central to our product development. As part of the Claims, KBS, and Performance team, you will deliver high-quality technical insights to support our Global Innovation Portfolio. This 100% laboratory-based role involves performance testing under consumer-relevant conditions to aid formulation design, support product communications, and develop product demonstrations. We adopt a digital-first approach, capturing data using tools like ELN & SDC.

Job Purpose

You will be part of the Claims, KBS, and Performance group within the Homecare Liquids & Capsules R&D team, collaborating closely with global formulation, digital, and performance teams. Your responsibilities include executing laboratory experiments for product assessment, claim support, and demo development, and generating reports using ELN & SDC.

Responsibilities
  1. Conduct wash experiments for performance and sensory testing to support formulation assessment, new technology evaluation, claim substantiation, and product demos.
  2. Prepare for performance tests, including fabric and stain ordering, and laboratory setup. Conduct post-wash measurements and analyze data.
  3. Operate various laboratory equipment such as washing machines, dryers, and appraisal tools.
  4. Plan and organize fabrics, stains, and test monitor stocks to meet testing requirements.
  5. Analyze post-wash data and report results clearly using digital and Microsoft tools like Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  6. Capture and report experimental outcomes using digital tools (ELN & SDC).
  7. Manage budget for the Claims & KBS team with Easy budget tool, providing monthly updates.
  8. Coordinate the sending of fabrics, stains, and products to external labs.
  9. Participate in team meetings and plan laboratory activities weekly with flexibility.
  10. Follow laboratory safety protocols to maintain a safe and clean environment.

Essential Criteria
  • BSc or MSc (or equivalent) in Physical Sciences or Engineering (Textiles or Chemistry)
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience in FMCG or detergents sector
  • Experience in textile or washing machine testing
