Join Homecare’s Clean Future agenda, which aims to transform laundry liquids by replacing fossil fuel chemicals with renewable ingredients, reducing carbon footprints, and making formulations biodegradable. Unilever’s Global Homecare Category is recruiting for its Laundry Liquids Design team at Port Sunlight, Wirral.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and career working on major laundry brands such as Persil, Surf, and Omo.

Understanding consumer needs is central to our product development. As part of the Claims, KBS, and Performance team, you will provide high-quality technical insights and data to support our Global Innovation Portfolio. This 100% laboratory-based role involves deploying performance tests under consumer-relevant conditions to design formulations, support product communications, and develop product demonstrations. We adopt a digital-first approach, capturing data using tools like ELN & SDC.

Job Purpose

Join the Claims, KBS, and Performance group within Homecare Liquids & Capsules Global R&D team, collaborating with global formulation, digital, and performance teams. Conduct laboratory experiments for product assessment, claim support, and demo development, and generate reports using ELN & SDC.

Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with the Performance Claims and KBS team to execute wash experiments for performance and sensory testing, formulation assessment, technology evaluation, claim support, and product demos.
  2. Prepare for performance tests, including fabric and stain ordering and laboratory setup. Conduct post-wash measurements and analyze data.
  3. Operate various laboratory equipment, including washing machines, dryers, and small-scale appraisal tools.
  4. Plan and organize fabrics, stains, and test monitor stocks to meet testing requirements.
  5. Analyze post-wash data and report results clearly using digital and Microsoft tools like Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  6. Capture and report experiment outcomes using digital tools (ELN & SDC).
  7. Manage team budget via Easy Budget and report monthly.
  8. Coordinate with external labs for fabric, stain materials, and product testing.
  9. Participate in team meetings and plan laboratory work weekly with an agile mindset.
  10. Follow safety protocols to maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment.

Essential Criteria
  • BSc or MSc (or equivalent) in Physical Sciences or Engineering (Textiles or Chemistry)
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience in FMCG or detergents sector
  • Textile or washing machine testing experience
