Job Description:

The Partner Engineering team collaborates with leading silicon companies to optimize Ubuntu for new chips. Our goal is to work with partner engineers to integrate new features and enhance performance for upcoming hardware, while maintaining a consistent user experience.

This role is fast-paced and problem-solving oriented, requiring resourcefulness, articulation, and the ability to deliver solutions across server and data center technologies.

As a Partner Engineering Manager at Canonical, you will lead an engineering team working on the full Linux server stack from kernel to AI workloads, optimizing Ubuntu for the latest silicon. You will manage relationships with key technology partners, ensuring timely project delivery.

Strong engineering background, technical leadership, code reviews, and architectural guidance are essential. As a manager, you will promote healthy engineering practices, documentation, quality, and performance. You will influence culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work on strategy and execution with your team.

Location: This is a globally remote role.

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Leading a distributed team to design and implement Ubuntu integration for new server hardware and software
  • Engaging with partners to deliver an optimized Ubuntu experience
  • Coaching and mentoring team members
  • Managing commercial engagements and project milestones
  • Maintaining quality and reliability standards
  • Aligning with other Canonical teams on product architecture and roadmaps
  • Working remotely with global travel up to twice a year for two weeks

Candidate requirements:

  • Proven experience in Linux, preferably Ubuntu or Debian
  • Strong software engineering skills in C/C++ and Python
  • Experience with Ubuntu kernel, userspace, packaging, embedded Linux, QEMU/KVM, or OVS/OVN
  • Experience working with customers to understand business challenges and communicate solutions
  • Experience managing software engineers with planning, delivery, and quality focus
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and build trust
