Linux Engineer (Linux, Red Hat, RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS, Oracle Linux, Data Centre, Engineer, Storage, SAN, Cloud, VMware, Blade Server) - Permanent Remote
Charles Simon Associates are currently looking for a Linux Engineer on a permanent basis for our client, a global business leader in their sector and a household name. The data centre team is at the core of this business, offering endless opportunities for the right candidate.
Location: Home Based
Salary: Up to £75,000 per annum plus on-call (1 in 5)
Skills/Requirements for the Linux Engineer
- Previous experience within a similar role
- Extensive Linux experience, ideally Red Hat
- Data Centre experience
- Ability to lead IT projects and engage stakeholders
- VMware experience
- Blade Server experience
- SAN Storage
- VMware Clustering
- Experience with ITIL processes for Change and Problem Management
- Experience working within a private cloud environment (highly desirable)
Responsibilities of the Linux Engineer
- Supporting Storage & Data Centre infrastructure as directed by management
- Assisting with Data Centre design to ensure high availability and disaster recovery
- Maximizing availability of Data Centre and Cloud systems with minimal disruption
- Installing, configuring, and managing Linux servers and software, using automation where possible
- Managing Data Protection platforms such as Commvault, Dell EMC Networker, and Zerto
- Collaborating with DBA, Network, Application, Systems, and Service Desk teams on various projects
- Conducting regular Disaster Recovery testing
- Carrying out system maintenance, upgrades, performance monitoring, and capacity planning with minimal disruption
- Maintaining documentation and diagrams of systems, networks, and communications
- Participating in out-of-hours on-call duties as required
- Keeping abreast of trends and best practices in Data Centre, SAN Storage, Cloud, and Linux technologies
