The role of a Linux Desktop Support Associate at Canonical

You will be responsible for delivering an outstanding technical support experience to employees and customers. From problem qualification to resolution, you will own and manage your cases, transferring them to colleagues or involving senior engineers when needed.

Your daily tasks include providing technical expertise, communicating effectively, and being service-oriented. You will prioritize customer issues, set aside time for learning about new products and technologies, and participate in training, team gatherings, and company events.

Location: This role is remote, based in the EMEA and Americas regions.

Daily responsibilities:

  • Work from your home office to support employees technically.
  • Assist new employees with technical onboarding.
  • Support infrastructure during international events.
  • Handle cases via phone, email, and web.
  • Act as an internal customer advocate, providing timely updates.
  • Manage support requests according to SLA and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Contribute to and update the knowledge base.
  • Draft and share technical notices.
  • Prioritize tasks to address urgent issues.
  • Continuously learn about products and services.
  • Maintain communication within the team, locally and remotely.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service quality.

Candidate requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering).
  • Experience with Linux environments through studies or work.
  • Knowledge of Ubuntu Desktop installation, troubleshooting, and configuration.
  • Basic desktop Linux usage skills.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and recovering Ubuntu installations.
  • Familiarity with Google applications and SSO.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt, and handle customer-facing pressure.
  • Good English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to travel up to four times a year for internal events.

Additional desirable skills:

  • Experience in customer support is a plus.
