Job description

Job Description:

This is a vacancy for a Youth Development Worker, to work in Linton, through Romsey Mill's partnership with The Beacon Youth Trust, on a 12-month contract, as maternity cover (with possible extension).

This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week), but we are happy to consider part-time hours. The role includes some evening work with opportunities for flexibility, and occasional Sundays may be required.

The post holder will be employed and line managed by Romsey Mill.

Salary: £24,702 - £27,334 (FTE, pro-rata for part-time).

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week (part-time hours would be considered). This will involve some evenings and occasional weekends.

Interviews: Monday 29th July 2024.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Romsey Mill team and to continue developing youth work in church and community settings, bridging the gap between the two, and investing in the lives of young people in Linton.

Joining the Youth Development Team, you will oversee a part-time youth worker and volunteers, delivering work alongside our Youth Development Worker in church and community settings, bridging the gap between the two, and investing in young people's lives.

This will involve delivering detached sessions, one-to-one work, young people-led group activities, open access youth clubs, school-based support, faith exploration sessions, church-based discipleship groups, and residential experiences.

Our goals are to support young people (aged 10-21) to overcome challenges and facilitate personal, social, spiritual, and educational development to enable them to live fulfilling lives.

This work will be delivered in partnership with The Beacon Youth Trust, a Christian charity established by the churches of Linton (Cambridgeshire) and supported by local people. Its objective is to serve the young people of Linton and the surrounding area.

Linton is a large village (approximately 5,000 residents) situated in South East Cambridgeshire, with good transport links to Cambridge (11 miles) and Haverhill (7 miles). It has a diverse socio-economic population. Linton Village College is an 11-16 secondary school with more than 800 pupils from Linton and surrounding areas.

Romsey Mill and The Beacon Youth Trust have a strong working relationship, given their shared Christian ethos. Recognizing the distinct yet complementary nature of the two organizations — including Romsey Mill’s experience and infrastructure, and The Beacon Youth Trust’s standing within the local community and close relationship with the Parish Council — the partnership is mutually beneficial and ensures high standards of youth work provision for Linton. The successful candidate will be employed and line managed by Romsey Mill but will work collaboratively with The Beacon Youth Trust, its sessional workers, volunteers, and trustees to establish a holistic support package for young people in the area.
