Job Purpose Summary

Lead and organise the production line team to ensure daily targets are achieved, products meet customer specifications, and operations comply with quality and safety standards. Motivate and support team members to foster collaboration, drive performance, and uphold high standards in line with company policies and procedures.

This is a hands-on role which includes producing products through intricate needlework, stitching and splicing, glue application, and following GMP procedures.

What You Will Do

  • Line Leading Responsibilities
  • Oversee the daily running of the production line, ensuring smooth operations throughout each shift.
  • Ensure daily production targets are met in accordance with the production plan.
  • Allocate tasks fairly among team members, ensuring correct segregation of components.
  • Ensure all products are manufactured to specification, on time, and to the required quality standards.
  • Promote and uphold good manufacturing practices (GMP), including adherence to cleanliness standards.
  • Liaise with Lab Technicians regarding AQL sampling and other production-related matters.
  • Provide daily performance feedback and communicate effectively with supervisors and fellow line leaders.
  • Monitor and report on process waste and scrap figures.
  • Ensure appropriate use of PPE and maintain its condition.
  • Team Oversight & Communication
  • Lead by example, ensuring the team adheres to company policies and procedures.
  • Motivate and support team members to drive engagement, collaboration, and high performance.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with colleagues and supervisors to ensure shift continuity.
  • Foster a positive and respectful working environment across the department.
  • Support Manufacturing Technicians in their daily responsibilities.
  • Training & Development
  • Support the onboarding and development of new staff, providing regular feedback to the supervisory team.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee training records.
  • Identify training needs in collaboration with supervisors and arrange on-the-job training as required.
  • Monitor training progress and provide updates to supervisors.
  • Administration & Compliance
  • Accurately complete all relevant production records and documentation.
  • Input production data into the ERP system in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure all team members operate in line with Pearsalls’ Health & Safety Policy.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards and ensure adherence to daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
  • Support site security and ensure compliance with all procedures.
  • Additional Duties
  • Undertake any other reasonable tasks within the scope of the role.
  • Provide cover for the Senior Line Leader and Supervisors as required.
  • Manufacturing Technician Duties
  • Perform visual inspections of the braid throughout the process to identify defects such as discoloration or physical imperfections.
  • Create splices by inserting a splicing needle through the inner cavity of the braid.
  • Cut and trim braid ends accurately to the required lengths using scissors.
  • Apply a superglue-type adhesive to the braid ends using a gluing machine.
  • Use jigs, rulers, templates, and verniers to measure product dimensions at key stages, ensuring accuracy and consistency throughout the process.
  • Manually pull, stretch, smooth, and straighten the braid with your fingers to achieve the correct finish.
  • Work efficiently to maintain consistent production output while upholding quality standards.
  • Achieve daily and weekly production targets within agreed deadlines.
  • Minimise product waste and actively report rejected items.
  • Follow all relevant company policies, procedures, and GMP guidelines.
  • Maintain high levels of cleanliness in accordance with scheduled cleaning routines.
  • Ensure correct and consistent use of PPE and report any issues with equipment.
  • Proactively communicate with the Line Leader or Supervisor to resolve production issues promptly.
  • Display a positive, team-oriented attitude and work collaboratively with colleagues and leadership.
  • Follow all Health & Safety procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Prioritise quality, accuracy, and cleanliness at all times within the workstation.
  • Deliver on-the-job training to new operators once fully competent.
  • Support the training process by providing regular feedback on trainee performance to the Line Leader or Supervisor.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as required within the scope of the role and individual capability.

What You Will Need

  • Level 2 in Lean Manufacturing, Business Improvement Techniques, or a related qualification – Desirable
  • NVQ Level 2 in Team Leading or a similar qualification – Desirable
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, ensuring collaboration and productivity
  • Proficient in IT, with experience using ERP systems and standard office software
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise effectively at all levels
  • Level 2 in Lean Manufacturing, Business Improvement Techniques, or a related qualification – Desirable
  • Knowledge and experience in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is highly advantageous.
  • Exceptional manual dexterity and a keen eye for detail, especially when working with intricate components.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy when performing repetitive tasks and work under pressure to consistently meet production targets while upholding quality standards.
  • Experience in needlework or similar manual production tasks is strongly advantageous.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This is a predominantly seated role that requires working at a desk for a 7-hour shift (excluding breaks), with minimal manual handling. The position is based in a controlled room environment, where personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times.
