Job summary

The Film Market is seeking a Lighting Supervisor to lead a team of Lighting TDs, directing lighting and shadow work to align with the project’s creative direction.

You will oversee the Lighting department’s deliverables, employ new techniques, and mentor artists while managing multiple projects within a hybrid work arrangement with two on-site days per week.

Qualifications

  • Ability to plan and execute complex 3D lighting scenes
  • Extensive management experience of large teams (10+ team members) with proven interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal)
  • Mentoring and developing artists
  • Analytical and innovative thinking
  • Proficient in Linux, Python and shell scripting
  • Knowledge of color theory, composition, lighting and aesthetics
  • Strong working knowledge of high-end CG or compositing software (Katana, Maya, Nuke)
  • Strong problem solving and render optimization skills
  • Self-starter capable of initiating and completing new projects
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and work with diverse personalities under deadlines
  • Builds strong relationships and inspires team

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Lighting TDs to create, direct and reflect lighting and shadows meeting the project’s creative direction
  • Manage and deliver Lighting department outputs, researching and implementing new techniques as needed
  • Mentor and develop artists within the Lighting team
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure lighting integrates with overall production
  • Handle multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining high-quality renders
  • Foster strong team relationships and effective communication

Job description

We are looking for a Lighting Supervisor who reflects the collaborative mindset, creative talent and passion for great filmmaking.

The Lighting Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of Lighting TDs to create, direct and reflect lighting and shadows that meet the creative direction and vision of the project. This role has shared accountability for the management and deliverables of the Lighting department utilising research, development, and implementation of new techniques when necessary.

  • Indepth knowledge of Linux, Python and shell scripting required
  • Relevant knowledge of color theory, composition, lighting and aesthetics
  • Strong working knowledge of various software platforms including Katana, Maya, Nuke, or any other high end CG or compositing software
  • Highly proficient in technical problem solving, debugging and optimizing renders
  • A self-starter with the proven ability to initiate and complete new projects
  • The ability to juggle multiple projects, work with diverse personalities and work within strict deadlines
  • A personable individual who can build strong relationships and inspire their team

This role is Hybrid, which means the employee will be required to work 2 days on-site per week at a Company designated location, and occasionally from home.
