Hertfordshire Sports Village is seeking full-time Lifeguard / Duty Assistants to join their team. Lifeguard / Duty Assistant (Senior, Qualified and Unqualified)

FTE: 1.0 (working 40 hours per week)

Duration of Contract: Permanent

Salary: HSV3.8-HSV5.15 (£25,608-£28,689) with uplift upon successful completion of a 6-month probation

Annual Leave: 23 days plus standard public holidays, rising to 26 days after 4 years of continuous service

Location: De Havilland campus, Hatfield, Hertfordshire

We are seeking full-time Lifeguard / Duty Assistants to join our vibrant team at the University of Hertfordshire Sports Village. Opportunities include senior/team leader roles, where proven skills and experience can lead to a pathway into Duty Management, as well as entry-level roles with training and development provided to support career progression in the leisure industry. Successful candidates will help prepare facilities for bookings and events across swimming pools, indoor/multi-use areas, and outdoor facilities, working as part of both the lifeguard and duty management teams, taking responsibility and leading shifts.

Main duties and responsibilities

You will be part of a team preparing facilities for a range of bookings and events, from international standards to grassroots levels, supporting organizations such as Arsenal Women’s FC, Saracens Mavericks, England Fencing, Swim England, and England Badminton. You will work within the lifeguard team and support duty management in a supportive, encouraging environment.

Skills and experience required
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role
  • For senior roles, supervisory experience within wet and dry sports/leisure centres is desirable
  • Energetic and motivated
  • Positive, personable, and welcoming approach
  • Ability to deliver exceptional customer service
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays

Qualifications required

Candidates should have:

  • A current and valid NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification), or the ability to achieve it within 3-6 months (internal training & assessment provided), and GCSE Maths & English grade D/3 or above, or equivalent

Appointments at senior level depend on relevant skills and experience, with opportunities for salary progression as knowledge and responsibilities increase.
