Job summary

Reading Borough Council is seeking a Licensing Enforcement Officer to support the Public Protection Team in Reading. The role protects public safety, health and local amenities by ensuring licensed activities are carried out lawfully and responsibly.

Responsibilities include inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions across taxi/private hire, gambling, street cafés, alcohol and entertainment licences, and event notices.

Qualifications

• Experience in licensing work is advantageous.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to local authority licensing processes.
• Customer-focused approach with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Carry out inspections, investigations and surveys of licensed premises, vehicles and activities.
• Assess licence applications and variations, making appropriate recommendations.
• Investigate complaints and take enforcement action in line with legislation and Council policy.
• Prepare reports and evidence for committee hearings and legal proceedings.
• Interview licence applicants and holders to ensure compliance with licence conditions.
