Position Summary

The LPN provides and documents individualized patient care, including patient evaluation, education, medication administration, IV therapy, treatments, and patient safety, under the direction of the RN or provider.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates competency in advanced practical nursing skills and the use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit-specific skills.
  • Communicates patient condition information effectively to the RN and healthcare team.
  • Assists RNs or providers during examinations and procedures.
  • Documents patient data and education according to hospital and department guidelines.
  • Performs triage functions, assessing patients and determining next steps in care, in collaboration with the nursing team or providers.
  • Administers oral and injectable medications or immunizations as permitted by the LPN scope and as directed by a provider.
  • Maintains a safe, caring environment for patients and families.
  • Stays informed about hospital policies, procedures, and equipment updates.
  • Participates in nursing performance improvement activities as assigned.
  • Adheres to legal standards, patient rights, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides age-appropriate care, assessing patient data to meet individual needs.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality in accordance with hospital policies and applicable laws.
  • Ensures compliance with all hospital policies and procedures.
  • Practices efficiency in supply use and maintains a clean, safe, organized unit.
Qualifications

Education/Training: Graduate of an approved LPN nursing program. Must complete a 30-hour IV therapy course within 30 days of hire for inpatient/SNF roles.

Licensure/Certification: Valid nursing license in Alabama. Current BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
