Department & Supervisor: Library, Library Manager - Youth Services

Summary

We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic Youth Services team at Shrewsbury Public Library! This position is available following a recent promotion, and we are looking for a passionate, creative, and highly organized individual to take on this important role in our library community.

As the Teen Librarian & Volunteer Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering engaging programs for teens and tweens, managing our teen collection, and overseeing a robust volunteer program. You will also work closely with school administrators, community organizations, and library patrons to enhance teen engagement with our resources and services.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Volunteer & Program Management: Oversee 100+ teen and adult volunteers, from recruitment to training, and ensure their success in the library’s programs. Develop and implement fun, impactful programs for tweens and teens, working closely with the teen advisory group to incorporate their feedback and ideas.
  2. Community Engagement & Outreach: Serve as a liaison to local schools, community organizations, and educators, providing library tours and presentations to promote library services.
  3. Collection Development: Curate, maintain, and develop the teen and tween collections, ensuring they are current, relevant, and engaging.
  4. Marketing & Communications: Create promotional materials, manage social media content, and update the library’s website to ensure that teen and volunteer programs are highlighted and accessible.
  5. Operations & Supervision: Supervise the library during weekends and evenings, ensuring smooth operations and a welcoming environment for all patrons.
  6. Professional Development: Stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in teen library services and volunteer management through workshops, conferences, and research.
What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with teens, a strong understanding of teen development, and an ability to create innovative and inclusive programs. You should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to interact effectively with a wide range of community members. Experience in volunteer management and a solid knowledge of library services, including automated circulation systems, are essential.

A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a Master’s in Library and Information Science preferred. You should have at least two years of professional library experience, including experience managing volunteer programs. Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and social media tools is also required.
