Job description

22 hours per week

We are looking to recruit a Library Assistant to work at Ryde Library. The post is for 3 days a week (22 hours), this will often include Saturdays.

The main duties in this post are to welcome users into the library, give them the help they need to find books and information, and make full use of the library’s ICT facilities. Library Assistants also assist Library Supervisors and Senior Assistants to run the library on a day-to-day basis and help manage the book stock. In addition, Library Assistants have a role in promoting the library service to local communities, and working effectively with volunteers.

We are looking for a person with customer facing library or retail experience, who has excellent communication and ICT skills, including good research skills and attention to detail. You must be willing to join in with activities involving adults and children and have a positive outgoing attitude.

Essential qualifications for the post are 5 GCSEs or equivalent at grade 4/C and above, including English and Maths, and ECDL or equivalent computer skills.
