Job description

Job Title: Customer Service & Library Support Assistant

The post holder will be part of a customer-facing team working at the UCL Language & Speech Science (LaSS) Library. LaSS Library primarily serves staff, students, and researchers in the Division of Psychology and Language Science and the Ear Institute. The collection includes books, journals, clinical assessment tests, and electronic resources relevant to Audiology, Linguistics, Psychology & Language, and Speech Language Sciences.

The main purpose of the role is to provide excellent customer service and clerical support for library resources and facilities. Responsibilities include supporting activities involving technology, social media, estate maintenance, and health & safety. Manual handling tasks are required; training will be provided.

This is an on-campus role and not suitable for regular remote work. The role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation, so UCL cannot sponsor individuals requiring right to work in the UK.

About You

We are seeking candidates with the following experience and skills:

  • Experience interacting with customers in frontline service environments, providing information both in person and online.
  • Experience working in digital environments, using Microsoft Office applications and online systems.
  • Initiative and analytical skills, capable of resolving basic problems independently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team, sharing goals and taking responsibility for tasks as appropriate.
Work Pattern and Salary

The work pattern is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. This is a part-time role; the salary is £18,000 per annum, including London Allowance.
