Job Title: Library Assistant

Starting Salary: £24,404 with the opportunity to progress to £24,790 per annum (pro rata for part-time)

Hours: up to 37 hours per week

Location: Hertfordshire

Hertfordshire’s libraries are more than collections of books; they are community hubs, access points for digital technology, and gateways to reading, information, and wellbeing. Our service points include small village libraries, town and city libraries, and performing arts libraries. Hertfordshire Libraries aims to help people live better lives for longer. Therefore, Library Assistants need to be passionate about proactively supporting people of all ages and backgrounds.

About The Role

Library Assistant roles involve a variety of activities, including:

  1. Promoting and supporting the use of library resources and assisting customers in finding information.
  2. Delivering library activities and events, and supporting the Library Manager in daily operations.
  3. Helping deliver services specific to each library, such as assisting with CreatorSpace resources like 3D printers and virtual reality devices.
  4. Making a positive difference to people's lives.
About You

Essential skills and experience include:

  • High-standard customer service experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • ICT skills, including Microsoft Office, Internet, and other digital resources
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team

Desirable skills and experience include:

  • Experience meeting KPIs and targets
  • Promoting events and services
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Supporting public queries and ICT use
  • Knowledge of Library Services

Vacancies

Roles are available at:

  • Royston Library SG8 9JN (21 hours): A large Tier 2 library offering various community activities and digital sessions.
  • Berkhamsted Library HP4 (6.75 hours): Offers events for children and adults, including storytimes, Lego clubs, and IT sessions. Responsibilities include opening/closing the library and training staff.
