Job description

We are looking for a confident, approachable and student-focused individual to join our Library and Study team, providing additional support during the busiest part of the college day. With around 2,600 students on site, lunchtimes are naturally one of our busiest periods. This role will provide an important additional staff presence across our library and study spaces, helping us to maintain environments that are safe, welcoming and purposeful for all students. Working for two hours each day, Monday to Friday, you will primarily support the supervision of students during the lunchtime period. You will be visible and approachable, encourage positive behaviour and help students make appropriate use of the different study and social spaces available across the college. The role will include:

  • Supervising students within the library and other study spaces across the college.
  • Providing a visible, approachable staff presence during busy periods.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and confidently challenging inappropriate conduct where necessary.
  • Helping to maintain calm, purposeful, safe and welcoming environments.
  • Supporting students to access study spaces and basic library resources.
  • Responding flexibly to areas of greatest demand across the college.
  • Supporting the wider Library and Study team with the day-to-day operation of the service.

You do not necessarily need previous library experience. We are particularly interested in someone who enjoys working with young people, can build positive relationships with students and is confident maintaining clear expectations in a busy environment. As the role provides an additional staff presence at one of the busiest points of the college day, previous first aid experience or a current first aid qualification would be desirable, although this is not essential.

This is a term-time-only position and may particularly suit someone looking for a consistent part‑time role that fits around other commitments.

Full requirements for the role can be found in the attached job description and person specification.

Closing date for applications is 9.00 am Wednesday 9 September.
