Job description

Main Purpose

  • To manage the library and its contents, ensuring it remains a welcoming and exciting place for our students.
  • To provide targeted intervention for our less able readers, supporting them to improve and enjoy their reading.
  • To celebrate a love of reading through regular fundraising events, including World Book Day.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • To encourage students to develop independent and collaborative learning skills.
  • To work with the HOD English to ensure appropriate reading materials are available for students to access.
  • To undertake supervisory and desk duties within the Library. To ensure appropriate conduct is maintained in the Library and to develop and coordinate student positions of responsibility in the Library.
  • To provide librarianship skills; including the management and cataloguing of resources, signing in and out of resources, chasing late returns and lost books.
  • To promote and market the library internally and externally using a range of approaches and methods.
  • Deliver targeted interventions to students, either individually or in small groups
  • Collect data to measure the impact of the reading intervention
Professional development
  • Help keep knowledge and understanding relevant and up-to-date by reflecting on your own practice, liaising with school leaders, and identifying relevant professional development to improve personal effectiveness;
  • Take opportunities to build the appropriate skills, qualifications, and/or experience needed for the role, with support from the school
Other Responsibilities
  • Responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Comply with and assist with the development of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
  • Be aware of and comply with all schools policies and procedures
  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure equal opportunities for all
  • Contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the Schools and Trust
  • Appreciate and support the role of other professionals
  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings, training and learning activities as required
