Job summary

John Smeaton Academy is seeking an enthusiastic Librarian to lead the academy library, promote reading for pleasure and support student learning and development. You will work closely with students and staff to create a welcoming environment that encourages independent learning and academic success.

The ideal candidate will have GCSE English and Maths, a passion for literacy, excellent communication and ICT skills, and experience working with young people in education.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
• A passion for reading, literacy and education, with a commitment to inspiring young people to become confident readers.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.
• Good ICT skills and the ability to support the effective management of library resources and systems.
• Experience of working with young people in an educational setting and supporting their learning and development.

Responsibilities

• Support and develop reading for pleasure and independent learning across the academy.
• Manage day-to-day library resources, systems and shelving to keep it welcoming and well-organised.
• Collaborate with teachers to promote literacy and academic reading.
• Build positive relationships with students and staff to support their development.
