A Secondary School in Bury is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Librarian with great ambition to manage, develop, and promote the school library, to cover a period of maternity leave. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in promoting literacy, managing library resources, and creating a welcoming space for students to explore, read, and grow.

Location: Bury, BL9

Hours: 25 per week, 11am - 4pm Monday - Friday

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Maternity Cover (up to 12 months)

Rate: £15/hour DOE

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Operate and manage the library's book issuing and return service.
  2. Classify, catalogue, and process new books and resources.
  3. Identify damaged stock and undertake repairs.
  4. Withdraw outdated or damaged stock.
  5. Arrange stock in an orderly and secure manner.
  6. Undertake routine administrative tasks.
  7. Manage overdue books and issue notices.
  8. Issue membership cards and maintain membership records.
  9. Supervise the library during lunch breaks.
  10. Organize and display library exhibits.
  11. Promote the library through various activities throughout the year.
  12. Lead the selection of new stock.
  13. Collect data on library usage, including borrowing statistics and usage during lessons.
  14. Collaborate with the Head of English to select and order new stock.

Key Skills/Experience:

  • General clerical and administrative experience.
  • IT literacy and good keyboard skills.
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team.
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Methodical with excellent attention to detail.
