Liaison Psychiatry Nurse (StG)

We are looking for a highly dedicated nurse to join our Liaison Psychiatry Service at St George's Hospital in Tooting. Our team provides a comprehensive specialist service to patients in the general hospital setting, including A&E. The team has been rated as an excellent service by the Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network.

You will be expected to work a shift system across a 24-hour period, seven days a week, primarily assessing patients presenting with mental health problems, self-harm, or psychiatric crises.

Main duties of the job

We have a strong commitment to education, research, and staff development. Alongside your professional growth, you will participate in teaching and training nurses and other health professionals.

This role offers a challenging but rewarding opportunity for nurses with strong assessment and therapeutic skills. You should be able to work autonomously while contributing to the team. Previous experience in Liaison Psychiatry is desirable but not essential. We provide excellent staff support through clinical supervision and teamwork.

Job responsibilities

The Deputy Nursing Team Leader/Clinical Charge Nurse/Community Psychiatric Nurse/Practice Development Nurse role is suitable for Registered Nurses who have completed preceptorship and are registered as NMC mentors.

You will deliver high-quality, safe nursing care, ensuring high standards of practice and clinical excellence in line with NMC standards.

As a senior nurse, you will promote clinical leadership and practice, serve as a role model, support professional development through appraisal and supervision, and contribute to educational programs. Your development may include postgraduate study, supported by your line manager.

In the South London Mental Health and Community Partnership, you will foster collaborative and cross-organizational working.

Person Specification
Training/Qualifications
  • RMN with current NMC registration
  • ENB 998 or equivalent
  • Degree or Diploma in Nursing, with relevant courses in Liaison Psychiatry (e.g., CBT, Brief Solution Focused Therapy)
  • RGN
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
Experience
  • Post-qualifying experience in psychiatry
  • Mentoring junior staff
  • Experience working with older adults
  • Other relevant post-registration experience
  • Audit and research experience
  • Experience in teaching or training
  • Experience in Liaison Psychiatry setting
