LGV Driver

Responsible to: Transport Manager / Road Operations Controller

Safety Responsibilities

Compliance with Local Working Instructions and Drivers Rulebook.

Safety Responsibility Statement

You are responsible for your own safety and must adhere to all policies, location LWIs, and guidance affecting your role. Seek advice from your line manager or the Safety Department as required. Report accidents, incidents, or unsafe acts promptly.

Duties
  1. Perform all roadworthy checks of vehicles and trailers as per the Rulebook for Motor Drivers.
  2. Drive vehicles with due care and attention, ensuring maximum economy while in the terminal or on the public highway.
  3. Ensure the safety and security of loads and vehicles, especially when parked off-site.
  4. Promptly collect and deliver containers to designated points.
  5. Report any damage to company or customer property and any accidents involving the public, following the Drivers Rulebook.
  6. Inform the Road Services Office of delays during loading/unloading to manage associated costs.
  7. Ensure all collection/delivery documentation is complete with signatures, company stamps, and accurate times.
  8. Maintain and record tachograph discs and logs as per legal and company requirements.
  9. Maintain a professional image and adhere to grooming policies when with customers.
  10. Complete non-traditional freight work with training provided, including various trailer types.
  11. Rope and sheet loads to the required standards.
  12. Keep assigned vehicles clean, tidy, and odour-free; smoking is strictly prohibited.
  13. Occasional overnight stays may be required, with allowances provided.
  14. Comply with the Rulebook for Motor Drivers issued by Freightliner Ltd.
  15. Attend mandatory and vocational training as required.
  16. Perform other duties as directed by your Line Manager, consistent with your skills and abilities.
