The primary responsibility of this role is to operate transport vehicles as directed by the line supervisor. The role involves loading and unloading vessels, trailers, containers, or performing other duties as assigned, in accordance with specified training and competency measures.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Participate in toolbox talks as required to ensure all relevant personnel are aware of the job tasks prior to commencement.
- Empowered to 'stop the job' if an unsafe action is observed and report it to the line supervisor.
- Conduct daily vehicle safety checks as per operator guidelines.
- Ensure driving skills meet the standards set by driver assessor audits, competency units, and licensing requirements.
- Keep an accurate record of daily work and tachograph charts for a minimum of 28 days and up to 42 days (for analogue). Download digital tachograph details regularly.
- Collect and deliver loads to and from vendors and customers safely and punctually.
- Secure loads properly, ensuring they are double strapped at all times.
- Provide and receive the correct paperwork for deliveries and collections.
- Ensure all straps, ratchets, and related equipment are fit for purpose and report any defects promptly.
- Transport dangerous goods in compliance with 'Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road' / ADR regulations.
- Maintain a professional demeanor during driving duties, whether on the road, at Peterson’s premises, or at vendors' and clients' sites.
- Load and discharge vessels, trailers, containers, and backloads (where certified OPITO).
- Communicate effectively with boat foremen and quayside supervisors as needed.
- Assist with the dispatch process for backload cargo, ensuring management and dispatch follow company procedures.
Requirements:
- LGV Class 1 license
- ADR certification for dangerous goods (not essential but preferred)
- Forklift truck license and cargo handling experience (if applicable)
- Driving experience is preferable
- Specific competency requirements
- Ownership of a digital driver card (preferred)
- Ability to promote teamwork, flexibility, enthusiasm, and determination to ensure team success
- Effective communication skills within the team
