Primarily responsible for operating transport vehicles as directed by the line supervisor. Performing loading and unloading of vessels, trailers, containers, or other duties as directed by the line supervisor in accordance with specified training and competency measures.

Tasks And Responsibilities

1. Participate in toolbox talks as required, ensuring all relevant personnel are fully aware of the job task prior to commencement.
2. Empowered to “stop the job” if an action is considered unsafe and report to the line supervisor.
3. Conduct daily vehicle safety checks as per operator guidelines.
4. Ensure driving skills meet the standards set by driver assessor audits, competency units, and license requirements.
5. Keep an accurate record of daily work/tachograph charts for a minimum of 28 days and a maximum of 42 days (analogue). Download digital tachograph details regularly.
6. Collect and deliver loads to and from vendors/customers safely and promptly.
7. Secure loads appropriately, ensuring they are double strapped at all times.
8. Provide and receive the correct paperwork for deliveries and load collections.
9. Ensure straps, ratchets, etc., are fit for purpose and report any defects promptly.
10. Transport dangerous goods in accordance with “transport of dangerous goods by road” / ADR regulations.
11. Maintain professionalism while conducting driving duties on the road, on Peterson’s premises, or at vendors and clients’ sites.
12. Load/discharge vessels, trailers, containers, and backloads (where certified OPITO).
13. Communicate effectively with boat foremen and quayside supervisors as needed.
14. Assist with the backload cargo dispatch process, ensuring cargo is managed and dispatched according to company procedures.

Requirements

• LGV Class 1 license
• ADR certification for dangerous goods transportation (not essential)
• Forklift license and cargo handling experience (if applicable)
• Driving experience preferred
• Specific competency requirements
• Digital driver card (preferred)
• Ability to promote teamwork, flexibility, enthusiasm, and determination to ensure team success
• Effective communication skills within the team
